The Search Committee of the Manitou Springs Community Congregational Church is extremely pleased to announce that the Reverend Gaye Bosley-Mitchell has been called to be our next settled pastor following a positive vote by the congregation this past Sunday, August 6th!
An open house was held at the Fellowship Hall of the church last Saturday, August 5th, to introduce Rev. Gaye Bosley-Mitchell and her husband, Rev. Glenn Mitchell, to the congregation and the community of Manitou. Held in conjunction with the annual garage sale, it was well-attended, even by a few who haven’t been to this church for awhile! All who met Gaye and Glenn had great things to say! She performed the worship service on Sunday for a packed house and did a marvelous job. A special meeting calling for a vote on whether to hire her as our next full-time minister was held immediately afterwards.
It has been a long journey since our last full-time pastor of 23 years, Rev. Dave Hunting, retired in September 2015. Since November 2015, we have been very grateful for the wonderful leadership of Rev. Dr. James (Jim) Reid, Interim Pastor. He has been instrumental in helping us reaffirm our values and beliefs and learn more about what this church is and, especially, where we want to go. He has instilled hope and provided fresh perspectives through his teachings and actions. Now, as we stand at the doorway to the next chapter in the life of this faith community, we will move forward with confidence and with sincere thanks to Rev. Jim.
For now it is business as usual with the Rev. Dr. Jim Reid who will continue his service and steady hand and leading worship August 13 and August 20. He will be on vacation from August 21 -September 4, returning on Tuesday, September 5th. His last worship service will be on Sunday, September 10th, during which there will be a farewell ceremony followed by a fellowship sharing in Fellowship Hall. Other events are planned, so watch your email and mailbox for updates and details.
Rev. Gaye’s start date is Monday, September 11th, and she will have a day or two with Rev. Jim for the “passing of the baton.” Her first official worship service will be Sunday, September 17th. She and Glenn are very excited. A fifth-generation Floridian, Glenn fell in love with Colorado during his time in seminary and has long dreamed of moving here someday; thus, one of the reasons Gaye applied for the job. She, too, fell in love with the church and the city of Manitou during a visit here in May, when they came to deliver childhood belongings to a couple of their children who live in Arvada. They have already started preparing for their move from Florida and are looking for homes in the Manitou area.
We hope you’ll plan to attend the events to thank Rev. Jim for his excellent service and leadership to this church. Stay tuned for details in the Thursday e-news. And, please join with us in welcoming Rev. Gaye and Rev. Dr. Glenn. We are very much looking forward to what they will bring to our faith community.
Lastly, a big THANK YOU to you, the members and friends of this faith community, for your faithful, patient support and many, many prayers. I pray that our bonds continue to grow stronger and that we may make room for new ones.
