The Frank E. and Salome B. Smith Scholarship Trust was established in 1976 by Mrs. Salome Smith. When Mrs. Smith died in 1994 she designated a portion of her estate to establish a trust fund to provide scholarships for young people to be administered by the Community Congregational Church of Manitou Springs.
The duties of your scholarship board are to review and approve applications for the Frank E. and Salome B. Smith Scholarship Fund and monitor the educational and personal progress of our young adults. In the years since the Smith Scholarship Board was established, we have been able to help over 100 young people continue their education.
The young people in our scholarship group for the 2020 – 2021 academic year:
Rachel Alexander (Case Western University),
Cassidy Arndt (Ft. Lewis College),
Molly Jo Arndt (Middlebury College),
Garrett Born (Liberty University),
Kendyl Born (Colorado Christian University),
Shayla Mosier (University of Colorado at Colorado Springs),
and Roxy Witham (C U Boulder).
Several of the students have written us about the challenges they faced this fall due to the Covid-19 crisis and the impact on classes, switching from in person to on line. They have all done remarkably well in spite of the unprecedented situation. We love working with these young people, seeing them grow as individuals through their college years.
Members of your scholarship board for the year 2020 are: Kim Beard, Sue Jones, Arlene Penman, Dan Stuart and George Whitt.
