Our Church Council, in accordance with the recommendations of our National and Conference leadership in the United Church of Christ, and in consideration of our local governmental leadership is taking measures to be proactive in attempting to slow the transmission of the COVID-19 (Corona) Virus in our area.
We will be gathering “digitally” for a shortened worship service, only via Livestream, for the next three Sundays (Mar 15th, 22nd, 29th), and suspending all activities in our Community Hall until March 31st.
This was not an easy decision, but we know that Sunday morning church has been shown to have been the cause in several cases so far (in other states), and the population most at risk for serious complications with this disease are the staple of church membership across the country. We are not willing to risk any of our beloved friends and family simply because we refused to listen to the wisdom shared from our healthcare communities world-wide.
It is our hope and prayer that we can slow the progression to a point that everyone who gets it will be able to have the care they need to survive. And our contribution, however small, is a work of love for everyone around us.
We will be sending out instructions as to how to join in our livestream via Facebook Live, and I will be contacting those involved in our Lenten Book Study to offer it via Zoom (a free digital conferencing application that our Church Council used successfully last evening to meet). Augusta and I will be working to check-in on everyone via phone and email to ensure that any pastoral care needs are met.
Please feel free to call the office and let us know how things are going, and let us know of any needs we can fulfill during this time of “social distancing”. My contact information is below my signature.
May you stay healthy and be blessed by this time of health-focused separation, and may God be with us all as we weather this unprecedented pandemic that none of us has ever experienced before.
